Matthew’s Weekly Letter, 1/29/2017

This Sunday, following our 10 am service, we will be gathering in Trinity Hall for the Annual Meeting of the congregation.  After enjoying lunch together, we will look back at some of the highlights of the year that is past, and look forward to some of our expectations for 2017.   We will finish by 1 pm, activities will be provided for children, and the Nursery will remain open.  Please join us as we take stock of Trinity’s life together.  Printed copies of the 2017 Annual Report will be available, but you may also download a copy here.

With the current political transition that is underway, many in our community have been wondering how they might make a faith-based response to policy changes that might conflict with the values The Episcopal Church has stood for.  There will be an invitation to reflect on this during the Lenten season.   But I would comment to you the Episcopal Public Policy Network.  The network is part of The Episcopal Church’s Office of Governmental Affairs located in Washington, DC, and the network seeks to make Episcopalians aware of political developments that are contrary to positions taken by The Episcopal Church’s General Convention or its Executive Council.  You can sign-up there for email alerts by which the network invites people to make their voices heard and/or to take action.  These alerts are also posted on their website, advocacy.episcopalchurch.org.

I know that our congregation contains a diversity of political opinions and points of view, and that is much to be valued and honored.  That is the reality of The Episcopal Church, as a whole.  But for those who wish to engage in faith-based action that is rooted in the positions taken by the governing bodies of The Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Public Policy Network provides a great place to do that.

Please join us this Sunday at 8 am, 10 am, or 5:05 pm as we continue to worship and reflect on God’s call to us, individually and a community.   And please join us for our Annual Meeting.  I also ask that you keep our new Vestry in your prayers this Saturday, as we gather for a day of retreat and reflection to begin a new year together.

Peace,

Matthew
